Interview teleprompter for video calls
Updated · By Kai Novak, founder of Crush Job
How does a teleprompter differ from a listening assistant?
A prepared teleprompter displays text you wrote in advance. A transcript-listening assistant uses the call to suggest notes as the conversation develops.
Crush Coach listens to the interview call, transcribes it through a speech-to-text provider and shows AI-suggested notes in a small overlay. Its feature FAQ explains: “The notes come from your own prep, such as your Interview Killer battle cards.” Read the feature FAQ.
| Approach | What you consult | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Prepared notes or script | Text written before the call | Permission to consult notes |
| Crush Coach | AI-suggested notes grounded in your prep | Permission for live AI assistance and call transcription |
Who might use interview notes, and what are the limits?
Consider notes when you want reminders of examples you have already prepared and the employer permits them. Use live AI assistance only within the interview's rules.
Keep prompts brief enough that you can listen and answer follow-up questions in your own words. Check suggested details against your real experience. A note cannot supply experience you do not have or replace understanding the question.
Crush Coach sends audio to a speech-to-text provider. It has a setting, “Hide overlay from screen shares”, on by default and adjustable in its settings. Treat that as a setting to review, not permission to use live help. Read where your data goes and the guide to AI in job interviews.
How should you set up for a video interview?
Start with permission, then test the setup you plan to use before interview day. This checklist is preparation advice, not a guarantee for a particular video-call configuration.
- 1
Check permission first
Ask the recruiter whether prepared notes and live AI assistance are allowed. Describe the setup you intend to use; do not assume permission for one covers the other.
- 2
Prepare short, true reminders
Write bullet points about your experience, examples and questions to ask. Practice answering from those notes instead of reading a complete script.
- 3
Check your computer
Choose the installer for your platform: Windows (Windows 10 & 11 · .exe); macOS (Apple silicon · macOS 13+ · .pkg); Linux (AppImage · x86-64). Sign in to access the download, and read the manual before your practice call.
- 4
Rehearse the actual call setup
Before a video interview, test your microphone, speakers, camera and any permitted notes in a practice call. If using Crush Coach, check that the transcript and suggested notes are useful in your setup.
- 5
Review the allowance and sharing settings
Check the minutes or credits available before starting. Review any screen-sharing setup with your practice partner and follow the employer's instructions during the interview.
For product instructions, use the Crush Job manual; for permitted use, check the published policy guide.
