Digital Marketing Manager Job Description
A digital marketing manager job description template, the ATS keywords that matter, and how to tell a focused role from five jobs in one posting.
Digital marketing manager postings fail in a specific and recognisable way: they list paid search, search engine optimisation, email, social, content, analytics and marketing automation, and then offer one salary. Some of those are genuinely one person's job. All seven are not.
If you are writing one of these, the honest move is to name the two or three channels that actually matter this year and say who owns the rest. If you are reading one, count the channels — a posting listing more than four is usually either a startup where you will do everything shallowly, or a team that has not worked out what it is hiring for.
The other thing worth checking is whether the role owns budget. A digital marketing manager who reports on spend and one who decides it are different jobs at the same title, and the difference shows up in compensation more reliably than years of experience does.

Full-time · On-site
$85,000 – $110,000
About the role
Vellacourt is looking for a Digital Marketing Manager to own paid acquisition and lifecycle email for our direct-to-consumer line. You will report to the Director of Growth and work alongside a content marketer and a designer.
This role owns a defined media budget and is accountable for what it returns. We are not looking for someone to run every channel at once — search engine optimisation and organic social sit with the content team, and we intend to keep it that way.
What you'll do
- Own the paid acquisition budget across Google Ads and Meta, including allocation between them.
- Build, test and iterate on lifecycle email campaigns, from welcome sequences through to win-back.
- Set up and maintain conversion tracking, and be the person who knows whether a number is trustworthy.
- Run a continuous testing programme on creative, audiences and landing pages — one live test at minimum.
- Report performance monthly against cost per acquisition and return on ad spend targets you help set.
- Brief the designer and content marketer on what the channel data says is working.
- Manage the relationship with our agency partner for creative production.
What we're looking for
- Four or more years in digital marketing, at least two of them managing paid media budgets directly.
- Hands-on experience with Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager — not just reading reports from an agency.
- Working knowledge of Google Analytics 4 and how to tell a tracking problem from a performance problem.
- Experience with a marketing automation or email platform such as HubSpot, Klaviyo or Braze.
- Comfort with a spreadsheet: pivot tables, cohort views, and enough rigour not to over-read a small sample.
- The ability to explain to a non-marketer why a campaign underperformed without hiding behind jargon.
Nice to have
- Direct-to-consumer or subscription experience, where retention economics drive acquisition decisions.
- Familiarity with search engine optimisation fundamentals, enough to coordinate with the content team.
- Experience running incrementality or geo-holdout tests rather than trusting platform-attributed numbers.
- SQL for pulling your own data instead of queuing behind the analytics team.
- Google Ads or Meta Blueprint certification.
Benefits
- Medical, dental and vision coverage starting on your first day.
- 401(k) with a 3% company match.
- Annual professional development budget of $1,500.
- Fifteen days of paid time off plus company holidays, rising to twenty after two years.

Frequently asked questions
Is a digital marketing manager the same as a growth marketer?
They overlap heavily and the titles are often interchangeable. Where they differ, 'growth' usually implies more experimentation across the whole funnel including product-led loops, while 'digital marketing manager' more often means owning specific paid and owned channels. Compensation is broadly similar; the scope described in the posting matters more than the word.
How much of this role is hands-on versus managing an agency?
It varies more than any other part of the job, and postings rarely say. A useful screening question in a first interview is who logs into the ad account. If the answer is the agency, the role is closer to vendor management than to marketing execution.
Do I need a certification to get hired?
No. Google and Meta certifications are free and quick, and they help marginally on an initial screen, particularly for candidates changing industries. No hiring manager will pick a certified candidate over one with demonstrable campaign results.
