Marketing Coordinator Job Description

A marketing coordinator job description template, the ATS keywords that matter, and how to tell a genuine entry-level role from an under-leveled one.

Entry levelMarketing and AdvertisingHybrid

Marketing coordinator is meant to be the genuine entry point into the field — the role built for someone with little or no full-time marketing experience, learning the mechanics of campaigns, events, and reporting under people who already know what they're doing. In practice, a large share of postings for this title ask for two to three years of experience and half a dozen tools, which turns an entry-level job into one only people who already have entry-level experience can get.

The mismatch usually comes from scope creep rather than dishonesty. A coordinator role gets written by whoever needs the most help right now, and each addition — handle event logistics, learn the CRM, draft the newsletter — feels reasonable on its own. Stacked together, the posting ends up describing a marketing generalist's job at a coordinator's salary and title.

The useful signal, reading one of these, is the ratio of tasks phrased as support to tasks phrased as ownership. A posting built mostly from words like assist, support, and help coordinate is describing what the title promises. One built mostly from manage, own, and lead — at a coordinator's salary — is describing a different, underpaid job.

Vellacourt · Denver, CO

Full-time · Hybrid

$46,000 – $58,000

About the role

Vellacourt is hiring a Marketing Coordinator to support our content, SEO, and social team with the operational work that keeps campaigns moving: scheduling, asset requests, event logistics, and reporting. You will report to the VP of Marketing and work across the whole team rather than owning one channel.

This is a genuine entry-level role. We are hiring for organization, follow-through, and a willingness to learn our tools — not for someone who already runs campaigns independently. Six months in, you should expect to be trusted with more ownership; on day one, you are not expected to have it.

What you'll do

  • Maintain the team's shared content and campaign calendar, and flag conflicts or gaps before they become problems.
  • Coordinate logistics for webinars and in-person events: registration pages, vendor scheduling, day-of support.
  • Enter and update contact and campaign data in our marketing automation platform.
  • Draft first passes of routine copy — newsletter blurbs, social captions, internal recaps — for a teammate to edit.
  • Pull weekly performance numbers into a shared reporting template for the rest of the team to use.
  • Manage the team's asset library so people can find the latest logo, deck, or one-pager without asking around.
  • Route vendor invoices and track the team's budget against plan.
  • Support the Content Marketing Manager and SEO Specialist with research and administrative tasks as needed.

What we're looking for

  • Zero to two years of professional experience; an internship or campus marketing role counts.
  • Strong organizational habits — this role is judged on what doesn't fall through the cracks.
  • Comfort learning new software quickly; you will touch a CMS, a marketing automation tool, and a design tool.
  • Clear written communication, since a large part of the job is coordinating other people's work.
  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with a marketing automation platform such as HubSpot or Marketo, even at a beginner level.
  • Basic experience with a design tool such as Canva for simple, on-brand asset requests.
  • Event or campus activity planning experience, paid or volunteer.
  • Exposure to Google Analytics or a similar reporting tool.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision coverage starting on your first day.
  • 401(k) with a 3% company match.
  • Annual professional development budget of $1,500.
  • Hybrid schedule: three days a week in our Denver office, two remote.
  • Fifteen days of paid time off plus company holidays, rising to twenty after two years.

Frequently asked questions

Is 'marketing coordinator' really an entry-level title?

It's supposed to be, and often is. The title becomes misleading only when a posting pairs it with two-plus years of experience and ownership of an entire channel — at that point it's an entry-level salary attached to a mid-level job description. Read the requirements section, not just the title, before assuming the level.

What's the difference between a marketing coordinator and a marketing specialist?

Coordinator roles are typically cross-functional and operational, supporting several channels or the whole team. Specialist roles are typically deeper in one channel — a content specialist, an email specialist — with more independent ownership of that one thing. Coordinator is usually, though not always, the more junior title of the two.

What does this role actually lead to?

Most commonly, a channel-specific role — content, social, SEO, or lifecycle marketing — once you've shown which part of the work you're best at and want more of. A coordinator role that has run for over a year with no path to a titled channel role is worth asking about directly in an interview.
